Retaining walls

Retaining walls are attracting features in the garden. We install both redgum retaining walls and block walls, with steps if required. Retaining walls breaking up different levels and slopes and hold either soil or mulch in place.

We prefer to use redgum over pine sleepers as the hardwood of redgum retaining walls lasts longer, generally 10-15 years. We take care to ensure a lasting professional retaining wall. All the posts are concreted and level with the sleepers and all the sleepers are fixed to posts. Drainage depends on the fall of the land, and is controlled by agi pipe and aggregate (20mm pebbles) at the base of the retaining wall.

Blocks can be used to create retaining walls. The staggered pattern drains easily while retaining soil or mulch. The color of the blocks can be selected to match or compliment any garden paving.

With a slight slope large rocks can be used as a retaining wall. Common types are honeycomb rock (or scoria) and white and grey quartz.
